The following section provides information on the various methods in which one could interface BI with MDM. The purpose of this integration is to use MDM's master data consolidation features to improve the quality of reporting in BI.
Benefits of BI-MDM integration
- Enables consolidated reporting in BI in cross system environment where MDM is a central hub for harmonized master data (single point of truth for all master data of an Enterprise).
- Reduce cost and gain competitive edge through MDM supported BI analysis in scenarios like Vendor Evaluation, Global Spend Analysis, Top N Customer Analysis.
Ways for Integration
(1) Directly calling SAP NetWeaver MDM during Enterprise Query and Analysis (Remote Master Data)
How does it works? One can use the 'Master Data Read class' option in the 'Master Data/Texts' tab to define Remote master data in SAP BI.
Follow the link below to know more about this setting.
Below is the link for the eClass explains the integration with an example along with the configuration of MDM ABAP API in BI system.
(2) Using Open Hub Destination
How does it work? One can use MDM for Information quality management in BI as follows: Once master data updates in BW are complete, this master data can be send to MDM wherein Potential master data duplicates are identified. These are given an identical key called MDM ID (CHAR 32). This master is then feed back to BI, after duplicate analysis. With slight adjustment to the data model in BI (i.e. by introducing new InfoObject MDMID as navigational attribute of master data in BI) one could make enterprise reporting more accurate.
